Draft Profile: Bio
Hailing from Daleville, Alabama, Jalen White emerged as a record-setting high school phenom before making his mark at Georgia Southern. At Daleville High, White led the nation in rushing yards and set an Alabama state record with 3,517 rushing yards in just 11 games as a senior. His eight-touchdown performance in a single half against Barbour County also etched his name in the state record books.White's collegiate career at Georgia Southern saw steady growth over four seasons. After limited action as a freshman in 2020, he gradually increased his production each year. His breakout came in 2022 when he rushed for 914 yards and 10 touchdowns on 162 carries, earning All-Sun Belt Conference honors. White capped off his college career in 2023 with 889 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, despite missing time due to injuries.
Standing at 6'1" and weighing 220 pounds, White brings prototypical size to the running back position. His college accolades include multiple All-Sun Belt Conference selections, with his best performance earning him second-team honors from Pro Football Network in 2022.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Super athletic - Made Bruce Feldman's 2023 Freak's List at #67. He Wrote: "holds the Alabama state record with 3,517 rushing yards (in just 11 games), is a strongman in the weight room, squatting 620 pounds, benching 360 and power-cleaning 350. He also vertical-jumped 40 inches and broad-jumped 10-4."
- Impressive burst and acceleration allow him to hit top speed quickly, enhancing his yards-after-contact ability
- Possesses good size and frame for the position, measuring in at 6'1" and 220 pounds
- Demonstrates above-average toughness, willingly initiating contact and fighting for extra yards
- High-end body control enables him to maintain balance through contact and bounce off weaker tackle attempts
- Versatile skill set with potential in the passing game - had 22 receptions for 217 yards in 2022
- Displays good pass protection awareness, scanning the field to identify blitzing defenders
- Productive college career with back-to-back 800+ yard rushing seasons in 2022 and 2023
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Average top-end speed may limit his big-play potential at the NFL level
- Inconsistent hands as a receiver, struggling at times to secure targets in the passing game
- Pass protection technique needs refinement, often slow to set his feet and engage blockers effectively
- Lacks elite power to consistently drive defenders backward, potentially limiting short-yardage effectiveness
- Durability concerns after missing time due to injuries in his final college season
Scouting Report: Summary
A physically gifted runner with the raw tools to develop into a productive NFL back. Boasts the size-speed combination that scouts covet, with the power to run between the tackles and enough burst to threaten the edge. His vision and decisiveness in zone schemes hint at scheme versatility, but he'll need to improve his pass-game contributions to earn a third-down role at the next level. While his athletic testing numbers jump off the page, his on-field production hasn't consistently matched this potential. There's a gap between his athletic ceiling and current on-field impact that NFL coaching will need to bridge. His powerful running style and ability to create yards after contact project well to short-yardage and goal-line situations, but he must refine his receiving skills and pass protection to become a more complete back.
Best suited for a power-based offense that can maximize his strengths as a downhill runner while developing his auxiliary skills. Could contribute immediately as part of a committee backfield, with the potential to grow into a more significant role if he can translate his impressive physical tools into consistent on-field production. His blend of size, power, and untapped athletic potential make him an intriguing day-three prospect for teams looking to add depth and upside to their running back room.
