Draft Profile: Bio
Rayshon Luke spent two seasons at Arizona after a stellar high school career at St. John Bosco. The California native rushed for 2,010 yards on 201 carries with 24 total touchdowns in high school, including 944 yards on 76 carries with 10 touchdowns in his senior year. Luke's track background includes a personal record of 10.55 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the 2019 CIF State Track and Field Championships.

At Arizona, Luke appeared in 20 games over two seasons. In 2023, he played all 13 games, rushing for 153 yards and one touchdown on 37 carries. His sophomore campaign highlighted his big-play ability, with a 40-yard rush against Washington State and a 66-yard reception versus UCLA. Luke's freshman year saw him gain 105 yards on 15 attempts, averaging an impressive 7.0 yards per carry.

The 5'9", 175-pound back entered Arizona as a highly-touted recruit. Rated four stars by 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals, Luke chose the Wildcats over offers from San Jose State, Arizona State, Boston College, and Duke. He was named to the All-American Bowl roster and earned accolades as Team Captain, MVP, All-Conference, All-State, and All-American in high school.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Elite straight-line speed translates directly to the field, allowing for home-run plays in both the run and pass game
  • Displays excellent burst through the hole, quickly accelerating to top speed and outrunning pursuit angles
  • Versatile skill set with potential to contribute as a runner, receiver out of the backfield, and kick returner
  • Shows good vision and patience, setting up blocks and finding cutback lanes in zone schemes
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to make the first defender miss in space, enhancing his big-play potential
  • Natural hands as a receiver, presenting a mismatch against linebackers in coverage
  • Track background provides a competitive edge and work ethic that translates well to football training
  • High school leadership as team captain suggests strong character and locker room presence
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Significantly undersized for the position, raising concerns about durability and ability to handle a full NFL workload
  • Limited college production and snap count leave questions about readiness for professional level competition
  • Struggles mightily in pass protection, often overwhelmed by larger defenders rushing the quarterback
  • Lacks the ideal frame to consistently break tackles or push the pile in short-yardage situations
  • May be limited to a specialized role due to size and skill set
Scouting Report: Summary
Luke fits the mold of a change-of-pace back and potential returner at the next level. His elite speed and big-play ability will intrigue NFL teams looking to add explosiveness to their offense. However, his size limitations and lack of proven production against top competition will likely push him down draft boards.

In the NFL, Luke could thrive in a spread offense that utilizes his speed in space and receiving ability out of the backfield. His best fit would be with a team that employs a running back-by-committee approach, where he can be deployed strategically to exploit mismatches. Luke's success will hinge on finding a creative offensive coordinator who can scheme touches for him in advantageous situations.

While Luke's athletic traits are impressive, his transition to the NFL will require serious development. He'll need to improve his pass protection and prove he can withstand the physical nature of the pro game. If he can add functional strength without sacrificing his speed, Luke has the potential to carve out a role as a dynamic offensive weapon and special teams contributor.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
