Draft Profile: Bio
Jacob Oden played for his father, Rod, at Harper Woods High School, in a small city on the edge of Detroit, and helped win the 2023 Division 4 state title. As a senior he made four interceptions and 14 pass breakups, scored two defensive touchdowns and also played receiver. A four-star recruit and U.S. Army All-American, he also ran sprints and jumps in track.Oden's 2024 action came in four games on special teams. He appeared 10 times in 2025, again mostly in the kicking game, finishing with three tackles and an interception against Washington.
Oden has had a small role in 2026, with his only recorded game a two-tackle outing in the 52-17 win over UTEP on 19 September. No injury has been reported, and Michigan has not given a reason for his limited playing time this fall.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Intercepted a pass against Washington in his limited 2025 snaps
- Quick, rangy athlete who ran sprints and jumps in track
- Played receiver in high school and has natural ball skills
- Made 14 pass breakups as a high school senior
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Has played in only one recorded game this season
- Only three tackles across his first two college seasons combined
- Very light frame for a safety who must tackle in space
- Yet to start a college game in three seasons
- Limited to special teams for most of his career
Scouting Report: Summary
Oden is an athletic safety with good speed and ball skills from his days as a receiver. He showed his potential with an interception against Washington in 2025.However, he has barely played on defense, with only a few tackles in three seasons and one recorded game this year. His slight frame is another concern, and he has yet to make a start.
Overall, Oden is a developmental safety who has barely been tested. He projects as a priority free agent in name only and is likely to stay at Michigan.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
