Draft Profile: Bio
DeAndre Moore Jr. worked his way up Texas' depth chart to become a reliable target in the Longhorns' passing game during the 2024-25 season. The California native attended multiple high schools, transferring from Desert Pines (NV) to Los Alamitos (CA) before finishing at St. John Bosco, where he was part of a MaxPreps national championship team. Moore arrived in Austin as a four-star recruit across all major services but saw limited action as a freshman, recording zero catches while contributing on special teams. His offseason work ethic earned him a starting role as a sophomore.

Moore's production increased throughout his second season, starting with a three-catch performance against UTSA that included his first career touchdown. Against Mississippi State, he recorded 104 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions, displaying his big-play ability. His most complete performance came in the SEC Championship against Georgia with career highs in receptions (9) and yards (114). For the 2024 season, Moore finished with 39 catches for 456 yards and 7 touchdowns, establishing himself as an effective red zone target.

Moore also developed into a strong perimeter blocker under the mentorship of former Texas receiver Jordan Whittington. This well-rounded approach to his position showed in his consistent playing time across running and passing situations. Despite suffering an injury that sidelined him for spring practices before his junior year, Moore had established himself as one of the more reliable targets in the Longhorns' passing attack and a key contributor to their postseason success.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Shows exceptional body control when adjusting to off-target throws, contorting mid-air to make catches that most receivers would leave on the turf – made several circus grabs against Vanderbilt that screamed Sunday skill set.
  • Route execution in the intermediate area is filthy, particularly on dig routes where he stacks defenders and creates substantial throwing windows – routinely gains 2-3 yards of separation on NFL-style timing patterns.
  • Nasty run blocker who brings the same intensity blocking cornerbacks as he does catching passes – displayed a mean streak against Oklahoma when he drove a safety 8 yards downfield and planted him.
  • Demonstrates superb concentration through contact, with hands that stay remarkably quiet until the last possible moment – made multiple catches against Georgia with defenders draped all over him.
  • Excellent in contested catch situations despite average height, using precise timing and powerful hands to snatch passes at their highest point – high-pointed a crucial third down against Ohio State in the playoffs.
  • Shows some dog in him after the catch, running with determination and balance that makes the first tackler regularly miss – consistently falls forward and finishes runs with authority.
  • Natural hands-catcher who extends away from his frame to pluck passes with confidence – rarely lets the ball get into his chest even in traffic.
  • Positional versatility to align outside or in the slot, giving offensive coordinators multiple ways to create matchup advantages – Texas moved him around to exploit favorable looks.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Despite good timed speed, doesn't consistently play to that number on film and can struggle to create separation against elite corners – appears more quick than truly explosive when stacked against top-end SEC defensive backs.
  • Frame lacks ideal length for boundary work at the next level – will face challenges against longer NFL corners when working outside the numbers.
  • Release package needs refinement against press coverage – relies too heavily on hesitation moves rather than varying his approach when challenged at the line.
  • Demonstrated inconsistent focus on routine catches, with concentration drops appearing in moments when he's already thinking about yards after catch – notably fumbled an easy pitch-and-catch against Texas A&M.
  • Hasn't shown elite production against top competition – his best statistical games came against mid-tier opponents rather than top-tier secondaries.
Scouting Report: Summary
Moore brings immediate value as a slot weapon with legitimate third-down and red zone capabilities. His hands and route precision in the intermediate areas make him particularly effective on option routes and mesh concepts where his change-of-direction skills allow him to find soft spots against zone coverage. The film shows a receiver who excels at medium and deep patterns, with particular effectiveness when working the middle of the field.

West Coast offensive systems will benefit from Moore's ability to win quickly off the line and create yards after catch in timing-based passing attacks. While he'll need to improve his consistency on routine catches to truly elevate his game, he fits naturally alongside a dominant X-receiver who commands defensive attention. His ceiling comparison is a more physical Tyler Lockett – a technician who maximizes his tools with exceptional football intelligence and craftsmanship.

The development trajectory from freshman to sophomore seasons suggests there's still untapped potential, particularly if he can add another five pounds of functional strength without sacrificing quickness. His reputation as one of the hardest workers in Texas' program indicates the kind of character and work ethic that translates to professional longevity. His combination of blocking tenacity, route precision, and red zone effectiveness projects to a receiver who could develop into a reliable 60-70 catch target for an offense that leverages his strengths in the intermediate areas of the field.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
