Purdue Boilermakers 2026 Preview: Barry Odom Doubles Down on a Portal Overhaul in Year 2

Purdue closed 2025 at 2-10 and 0-9 in the Big Ten, a second straight lost season that pushed the program's league losing streak to 18 games and deepened the worst stretch in school history. Barry Odom could not slow the bleeding in his debut, and the Boilermakers have gone two full years without a win over a Power 4 opponent, their last conference victory dating to 2023.

The offseason story is a familiar one in West Lafayette: another wholesale roster teardown through the transfer portal. Odom brought in roughly 29 new arrivals plus a handful of juco transfers, rebuilding nearly every position group for the second year in a row. The coaching staff at least offers continuity, and Odom has publicly promised a bowl. Whether a roster assembled almost entirely from outside pieces can gel that quickly is the question that defines the year.
