Draft Profile: Bio
A four-star recruit out of Knoxville Catholic High School, Baron initially chose to stay home and play for Tennessee. Over four seasons with the Volunteers, he amassed 100 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks in 47 games. His senior year saw a career-high in sacks, showcasing his development as a pass rusher.Following his time at Tennessee, Baron briefly committed to Louisville before ultimately transferring to Miami (FL) for his final collegiate season. This move allowed him to test his skills in the ACC after proving himself in the SEC. At Miami, Baron continued to showcase his pass-rushing prowess, building on his reputation as a disruptive force on the edge.
Standing at 6'5" and weighing 260 pounds, Baron possesses an NFL-ready frame that combines length with a sturdy build. His physical tools, coupled with his experience against top-tier competition in both the SEC and ACC, have put him firmly on the radar of NFL scouts. This culminated in an invite to the Reese's Senior Bowl, where Baron had the opportunity to showcase his skills against other top draft prospects.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Explosive get-off at the snap, consistently winning the edge and threatening the C-gap
- Uses length effectively to stack-and-shed, maintaining two-gap responsibility against the run
- Diverse pass-rush arsenal, employing speed-to-power conversions and inside counters
- High-motor player who pursues from the backside and fights through the whistle
- Scheme-versatile, equally effective as a 5-tech or standing up in a two-point stance
- Production against SEC and ACC competition indicates pro-ready skill set
- Natural bend and flexibility to dip under offensive tackles' punch
- Instinctive player who diagnoses plays quickly and rarely bites on misdirection
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Anchor needs improvement, can get displaced by down blocks in the run game
- Hand usage in pass rush lacks refinement, relying too heavily on first-step wins
- Bull rush lacks consistency, limiting ability to collapse the pocket when speed rush is stalled
- Struggles to disengage quickly once locked up, limiting production in traffic
- Pad level rises when fatigued, compromising leverage late in games
Scouting Report: Summary
Baron brings a high-upside skill set to the edge defender position in the NFL. His explosive first step and length make him an immediate threat as a situational pass rusher, while his versatility to play in multiple fronts increases his value in today's multiple-look defenses. In base 4-3 schemes, Baron could thrive as a hand-in-the-dirt defensive end, utilizing his speed to stress offensive tackles and disrupt backfield timing. For 3-4 systems, his ability to play standing up makes him a viable option at outside linebacker, where his coverage skills will need development but his pass-rush acumen can be immediately leveraged.
Baron's potential as a double-digit sack artist, coupled with his current ability as a rotational pass-rush specialist, positions him as an intriguing day two prospect. His experience against top-tier SEC and ACC competition has prepared him for the rigors of the NFL, though he'll need to refine his run defense to become a true three-down player at the next level.
