Draft Profile: Bio
A throwback player in the modern era, Ouzts emerged from Rock Hill, South Carolina as an unheralded three-star recruit before developing into one of Alabama's most reliable role players. While his receiving statistics won't jump off the page (16 career receptions for 184 yards), Ouzts carved out a crucial niche as the Crimson Tide's designated hammer in the run game across 46 career appearances. His evolution from special teams contributor to key offensive piece speaks to his dedication to mastering the unglamorous aspects of tight end play.

After seeing action in 11 games as a freshman primarily as a goal-line fullback, Ouzts steadily expanded his role each season in Tuscaloosa. By his junior year, he had earned seven starts while emerging as one of the SEC's most punishing lead blockers. His senior campaign saw him notch six starts in 13 games while finally showing some receiving upside with eight catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns. More importantly, he continued to serve as the offensive line's sixth member, consistently creating running lanes with bone-crushing blocks.

While the modern NFL trending toward hybrid receiving tight ends threatened to make players like Ouzts obsolete, his old-school skill set and versatility as an in-line blocker, H-back and fullback has actually increased his value to teams still emphasizing power football. His frame has filled out perfectly for the role, as he's added over 12 pounds of muscle since arriving at Alabama while maintaining his athleticism.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Devastating drive blocker who consistently creates movement at the point of attack - plays with natural leverage and explosive leg drive to uproot defenders
  • Shows excellent spatial awareness as a pull blocker, masterfully navigating traffic to find and eliminate second-level defenders
  • Versatile chess piece who can align all over the formation - equally effective as an in-line tight end, H-back, or traditional fullback
  • Brings an infectious intensity and physicality to the run game - seeks out contact and consistently plays through the whistle
  • Natural hands catcher who plucks the ball away from his frame - more reliable in the passing game than his limited targets suggest
  • Advanced understanding of blocking angles and leverage points - consistently puts himself between defender and ball carrier
  • Exceptional functional strength to stalemate defensive ends at point of attack - anchors well against bull rush in pass protection
  • Former high school wrestling background shows up in his hand placement and ability to maintain blocks through contact
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Limited route tree and receiving production raises questions about ability to threaten defenses vertically at next level
  • Lacks ideal long speed to consistently separate from NFL linebackers - will need scheme help to create favorable matchups
  • Can get overaggressive at times leading to missed blocks in space - needs to break down better rather than lunging
  • While effective in short areas, change of direction ability is just adequate - some stiffness in his lower half shows up in routes
  • Despite solid hands, doesn't show natural ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls or make contested catches in traffic
Scouting Report: Summary
At a time when fullbacks seemed destined for extinction, Ouzts offers intriguing value as a hybrid player who can fill multiple roles in a power run scheme. His ability to dominate as both an in-line blocker and lead blocker from the backfield will appeal to teams still emphasizing gap scheme runs and play-action passing.

While he may never develop into a consistent receiving threat, Ouzts has shown enough natural hands and short-area quickness to be a viable check-down option and red zone target. His immediate impact will come as a core special teamer and situational offensive player who can wear multiple hats in heavy personnel packages.

Look for Ouzts to carve out a long career as a valuable role player who brings toughness and versatility to an NFL roster. His best fit comes with a team that still employs a fullback and emphasizes downhill running - think San Francisco, Baltimore, or Cleveland's offensive systems. Projects as a late day three selection who could outperform his draft position in the right scheme.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
