Draft Profile: Bio
Michael Wilson was a two-sport sensation at Chaminade High School where he played both football and basketball. He was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports after making a huge 2900 yds and 28 TDs at high school. After high school, Wilson opted to join Stanford. In 2018 as a freshman Wilson saw action in 12 games for the Cardinals as he made 14 receptions for just 126 yards for an average of 9.0 yards per reception, with one TD, and an excellent QB rating when targeted of 90.1.
As a sophomore in 2019 he played 12 games and made 56 catches for 672 yards for an average of 12.0 yards per catch, with 5 TDs, and an outstanding QB rating when targeted of 116.2.
As a junior in an injury-plagued season he played just 4 games and hauled in 19 catches for 255 yards for an average of 13.4 yards per catch, with one TD, and an outstanding QB rating when targeted of 116.7.
As a senior in 2021 he played 5 games and had 9 catches for a solid 179 yards for an average of 9.4 yards per catch, and QB rating when targeted of 40.1.
As a fifth-year senior in 2022 he played 6 games and had 27 catches for 421 yards for an average of 15.6 yards per catch, 4 TDs, and an elite QB rating when targeted of 135.5.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Protypical size standing 6-1 and weighing in at 216lbs combined with the speed to give DBs serious concern
- He’s equally dangerous in catch-and-run situations as Wilson is taking the top off a defense
- While his career has been limited at Stanford - he's still managed to put up a career QB rating when targetted of 105.4
- Wilson has reliable hands and shows the willingness to make catches in traffic over the middle.
- Really nice run blocker - almost looks like tight end out there on sweeps
- A traditional split end wide receiver - has played 85% of his snaps out wide
- Could play as a gunner on special teams early in his pro career while still finding his feet
- He catches the ball with his large (72nd percentile), soft hands, and is tough. Deceptive jets and a smooth route runner.
- Escaping the jam won’t be a problem with his upper-body strength and quick hands. He’ll help as a perimeter blocker in the run game.
- Wilson runs precise routes, showing an innate feel for setting up defensive backs to create separation.
- Physical player able to get off press coverage to release up the sideline or position himself inside the cornerback on slants and crossing routes.
- Surprised a lot of scouts by being the best receiver at the Senior Bowl - caught four passes for a game-high 76 yards, including the game-sealing touchdown from Haener in the fourth quarter
- Wilson's ability to take the top off of defense was questioned - but he may have quashed these criticisms during an outstanding week at the Senior Bowl
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Wilson lacks the twitch to create consistent separation, and despite his size and ability to track the ball downfield
- Has shorter arms than you expect for a receiver of his height - just in the 31st percentile
- Massively inexperienced and a little technically raw - has played just 14 games during the last three years at Stanford
- Has decent but not elite speed - will not burn top NFL corners
- while he has good hands Wilson too often body catches - needs to become more displined
- Plagued by injuries while playing on an awful Stanford team - only managed six games in 2022. Also suffered a season-ending injury in 2020 and has just one full season of college ball
Scouting Report: Summary
Micheal Wilson is a decent pro prospect, who has a nice combination of size, hands, and quickness and is ideally suited to play the Z receiver role, something that is becoming rarer in college prospects. Wilson's health is obviously the major negative to him being selected high in the draft, and he'll need to go through some serious medical evaluation before teams are willing to take a chance on him. Health isn't the issue with him as a prospect, Wilson is predictably a little raw in his playing style - given his limited playing time, and also doesn't have elite speed.Overall, Wilson - assuming he checks out medically has starting potential in the pro game (especially for a team playing a more traditional offense) - and thus probably won't last past the third round of the 2023 NFL draft.
