Draft Profile: Bio
Cedric Tillman from Bishop Gorman High School was rated a three-star prospect by all the major recruiting services. After high school, Tillman opted to join Tennessee.

In 2018 as a freshman Tillman saw little action. As a sophomore in 2019, he played 12 games and had just 4 catches for 60 yards for an average of 15.0 yards per catch, with a TD.

As a junior in 2020 he played 10 games and hauled in just 3 catches for just 67 yards for an average of 22.3 yards per catch, with one TD.

As a senior in 2021 Tillman broke out as he played 13 games and had 64 catches for an outstanding 1081 yards for an average of 16.9 yards per catch, 12 TDs, and a QB rating when targeted of 155.8.

As a fifth-year senior in 2022 he played just 6 games after being sidelined due to an ankle injury. During this time he managed 37 catches for 417 yards for an average of 11.3 yards per catch, 3 TDs, and a QB rating when targeted of 93.7.
Honors & awards
  • Reese's Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week (at Pitt, 9/10/22)
  • 2021 All-SEC Second Team (Phil Steele)
  • 2020 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll
  • 2019 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll
  • 2018-19 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll
  • Owns the school record for consecutive games with a TD catch at seven from Oct. 16 to Dec. 30, 2021
  • Father played four NFL seasons, including 1992-94 with the Denver Broncos and 1995 with the Jacksonville Jaguars
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Prototypical outside receiver standing at 6-3 and weighing in at 213lbs, combined with long arms and big wing span will make scouts drool
  • Put some athletic doubts to bed at the combine - he ran a decent 4.54 and broad jumped in the 89th percentile displaying serious explosion
  • Surprising quick off the line - gets the first step on corners playing press. Demonstrated this short area quickness with a 1.53 (74th percentile) 10-yard split at the combine
  • Tillman tracks the ball well downfield and consistently runs under long throws.
  • Strong runner with the ball with enough agility to make defenders miss in the open field.
  • Thriving on physicality, he’s a contested-catch specialist with a knack for warding off defenders while the ball is in the air. He has strong hands and the ability to wrestle the ball away from defenders.
  • Has put up impressive performances against the top SEC teams - so the NFL shouldn't phase him
  • Elite soft strong hands, who dominate in contested catch situations. Is a red zone demon due to long arms, overall length, and leaping ability
  • Tillman has quick feet and good body control, allowing him to gear down and quickly get in and out of cuts. His hands are good, and he’s a creative runner after the catch with the elusiveness to slip tackles in space.
  • Although Tillman is more of a possession target than a field stretcher, his fiercely competitive demeanor and run-after-catch ability make him a major threat in the middle of the field.
  • Physical player able to get off press coverage to release up the sideline or position himself inside the cornerback on slants and crossing routes.
  • He's an excellent run blocker - sometimes looks like a tight end in the run game
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Play lacked any position diversity - played nearly all the snaps split out wide on the right with a few as a slot on the right. Never played on the left and was never put in motion
  • Is almost too physical in contested catch situations - may draw pass interference calls in the pros
  • Played a limited route tree as Vol - more a symptom of their offense than a limitation of his skill set though
  • Tillman isn’t going to overwhelm opposing defensive backs with speed and while it is decent he doesn't have the top gear required to create separation
  • Even before he hurt his ankle in 2022 his performances were not quite as dominant as in 2021 - maybe he should have come out early?
Scouting Report: Summary
Tennessee's Cedric Tillman is a very good wide receiver pro prospect. He has impressive size - ideal for the position, combined with excellent overall length, outstanding vertical explosion, and reliable soft hands and he's also put up elite production at the highest level of college football.

He however isn't perfect and you certainly couldn't classify him as a burner and had a serious ankle injury that cut short his 2022 season - although he looked fully recovered at the combine. Overall he probably deserves a second selection in the 2023 NFL draft and will likely have a productive pro career, with a chance to put up some serious numbers at the next level

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
