Scouting Report: Strengths
- Bernard does a nice job with recognition as a pass protector and gives good effort.
- He has the straight-line speed to outrun angles, and his flexibility allows him to turn the corner on the perimeter and stay near top speed as Bernard does; he’s especially effective on fly sweeps.
- Made Bruce Feldman's Freak's List - ranked #70. He wrote "The 6-0, 202-pound sophomore broad-jumped 10-9 1/2, clocked 4.42 in the 40 and vertical-jumped 38 1/4. Teammate Clark Phillips gushed about Bernard’s Freak credentials, pointing out the guy who is barely 6 feet can do 360 dunks."
- He’s equally dangerous in catch-and-run situations as he is taking the top off a defense
- Bernard shows decent burst and straight-line speed to turn in big plays.
- He’s a creative runner, finding cut-back lanes and often looking like a return specialist on some of his longer runs.
- His initial burst is excellent, and he’s capable of running out of a traditional setup or taking the ball lined up next to a quarterback in shotgun.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- He’ll be coming to the NFL from a wide-open spread offense in which Bernard ran a limited route tree.
- Offers little in pass protection and poor technique cut blocking, fails to do more than slow down blitzers by laying down in front of them.
- Bernard doesn’t offer a ton of wiggle, and in college, he often sought out contact rather than avoiding it.
