Draft Profile: Bio
J'Mond Tapp was one of the top prospects in Louisiana at Ascension Catholic, an All-American Bowl selection who also played tight end, basketball and track before signing with Texas. He appeared in nine games over two seasons in Austin and made the 2023 Academic All-Big 12 first team before moving on to Arizona State, where he did not see the field in 2024.Tapp finally found a home at Southern Miss in 2025, recording 7.5 sacks and earning first-team All-Sun Belt honors, with a nine-pressure afternoon against Appalachian State among his best performances. When head coach Charles Huff left for Memphis, Tapp followed him.
He entered 2026 on the Senior Bowl Top 300 list and Bruce Feldman's Freaks List, and he opened the season with five tackles and a sack in the 27-21 win at UNLV for a Memphis team that has started 4-1.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Explosive edge whose testing earned a spot on Feldman's 2026 Freaks List
- Constant pressure source, with 62 pressures in 2025 and at least one in every game
- Reduces inside on passing downs, collapsing the pocket from multiple alignments
- Quick start at Memphis, with 18 pressures through five games
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Tackling is a pattern problem: six misses in 2025 and three more this fall, two at Boise State
- Run defense lags his rush, and bigger tackles can wash him out of his gap
- Four schools in five years, with only one season of real production
- Did not play a snap in 2024 after leaving Texas
- Uncomfortable in space when asked to drop or carry a back
Scouting Report: Summary
Tapp is the definition of a late bloomer with blue-chip tools. He arrived at Texas as a prized Louisiana recruit, barely played in Austin, sat out a year at Arizona State and only found his footing in the Sun Belt in 2025, where he became a first-team all-conference pick and a consistent source of pressure. The athleticism that made him a Freaks List selection shows up when he gets a clean rush lane: he closes quickly, can rush from multiple alignments and has added 18 pressures in five games for Memphis this fall. However, NFL teams will have a lot of questions to work through. He has played for four schools in five seasons, the production is concentrated in a single year below the Power Four level, and his tackling and run discipline remain inconsistent, as the two missed tackles in the loss at Boise State showed. When he has to play in space or carry a back down the field, he looks uncomfortable.
Overall, Tapp is a high-upside athlete whose track record has caught up with his talent only recently. He projects as a priority free agent edge rusher with a ceiling as a rotational pass rusher if a strong senior season and all-star week reignite his recruiting buzz, and a floor as a camp body.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
