Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Byrd is strong enough in the lower body to hold up at the point of attack, and Byrd displays a good feel as a grappler in the phone booth, consistently getting blockers off-balance before sending them to the ground.
  • He could fit as a 3-4 OLB, as he held his own when he was asked to drop into coverage at times.
  • Combines excellent power with initial quickness, but one of his best attributes are his violent hands, which he uses with impressive precision.
  • He is a high-motor pass rusher who shows a good feel for countering, and he has the functional strength to bounce off tackles and close on the quarterback with second effort.
  • Looks the part. Possesses a long, athletic build with room for additional muscle mass. Flashes a burst off the snap, good enough to cross the face of collegiate tackles and put him in position to make big plays behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Short but muscled up and powerful, Byrd is a uniquely built edge rusher who wins with quickness and leverage.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Byrd lacks ideal length for an edge rusher, and he’d be on the small side for the interior with a little more room on his frame to add weight
  • Never out of a play, but can get out of control and work himself away from the action.
  • While Byrd moves well laterally, he doesn’t always get there in pursuit.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
