Draft Profile: Bio
Dom Nichols grew up in Frederick, Maryland, and was a record-setting pass rusher at Oakdale High School, and in his senior season he made 84 tackles, a school-record 15.5 sacks and a school-record 77 pressures for a 14-0 team that won the Class 3A state title, and he finished his career with 27 sacks and 51 tackles for loss. He also played tight end and won a state basketball title as a sophomore. He was a three-star recruit in Michigan's 2024 class.

Nichols played in five games as a freshman in 2024, forcing a fumble, and earned Michigan's scout team defensive player of the year award. He moved into the edge rotation in 2025, playing in 12 games and making 19 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and his first career sack against New Mexico. He closed the season with a career-high three tackles in the Citrus Bowl against Texas.

Nichols took on a larger role in 2026 and made an immediate impact, with seven run stops and four pressures in the 13-12 win over Western Michigan and six pressures in the 17-10 win over Oklahoma. He was listed as questionable before the Iowa game but played. He has 16 tackles and 5.0 tackles for loss in five games, according to Michigan's official totals, and 14 pressures and 11 run stops in six games for a 4-3 team.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Quick get-off that beats tackles to the edge early in the down
  • Has 14 pressures in six games, with six against Oklahoma
  • Seven run stops and four pressures against Western Michigan
  • Credited with 5.0 tackles for loss in five games this season
  • Record-setting high school pass rusher on a 14-0 state title team
  • Multi-sport background as a tight end and state champion basketball player
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Very light frame for an edge, so he struggles against drive blocks
  • Missed five tackles in six games this season
  • Average timed speed limits his bend on wide rushes
  • Limited experience, with about 400 defensive snaps over the last two seasons
Scouting Report: Summary
Nichols is a quick, long edge rusher who has made the most of a larger role this season. He gets off the ball quickly, reaches the tackle's edge before the blocker is set and plays with constant effort, and he has 14 pressures and 11 run stops in six games. He made seven run stops and four pressures against Western Michigan and six pressures in the win over Oklahoma, and Michigan's official totals credit him with 5.0 tackles for loss in five games.

His production has been consistent at every level. He set school records with 15.5 sacks and 77 pressures as a senior at Oakdale, where his team went 14-0 and won the state title, and he earned the scout team's top defensive award as a freshman before moving into the rotation in 2025. His background as a tight end and state champion basketball player shows in his athleticism and body control.

However, his frame is a long way from finished. He is very light for an edge, so drive blocks and double teams can move him off the ball, and he will need to add strength to hold up as an every-down player. His timed speed is average, which limits his ability to bend and flatten on wide rushes, and he has missed five tackles in six games this season. He has also played only about 400 defensive snaps over the last two seasons, so the sample is small.

Overall, Nichols is a developing pass rusher whose get-off and production give him a clear role on passing downs. He projects as a fourth-round edge rusher who could start at outside linebacker if he adds strength, with the floor of a rotational pass rusher. Teams will also want to know his eligibility plans, since sources differ on his class year.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
