Brendan Sorsby landed at Lake Dallas High School as a two-way threat, but his recruitment was quiet - mostly two-star rankings with a late three-star bump from some services. Indiana took a chance late, and after a redshirt year Sorsby started seven games as a redshirt freshman in 2023, throwing 15 touchdowns against five interceptions before a coaching change prompted his move to Cincinnati.In 2024, Sorsby became the only FBS quarterback to post both a 425-yard passing game and a 125-yard rushing performance, finishing with 2,813 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, and nine rushing scores while completing 64% of his throws. He earned back-to-back Newcomer of the Week honors along with honorable mention for conference Newcomer of the Year.
In 2025 he went 184-of-303 (60.7%) for 2,518 yards with 24 touchdowns and five picks, plus 90 carries for 521 yards and nine scores, opening the season with 148 consecutive attempts without an interception. He went 15-of-15 for 253 yards and five touchdowns against Northwestern State and threw for 284 yards and four touchdowns against Oklahoma State, earning Davey O'Brien and Manning Award watch list spots and an East-West Shrine Bowl invitation. At his best he can manage a game, protect the football and create explosives through the air and on the ground, and the two-year body of work as a starter shows steady growth from Indiana to Cincinnati.
The consistency is the question. His accuracy by level is even rather than special, and the placement wavers outside the numbers; he bails clean pockets early when he senses pressure rather than trusting his protection, and his footwork gets choppy under a sustained rush, pulling throws off the frame. He cratered against Utah, 11 of 33 for a single score, the kind of night that shows up when defenses bring exotic looks. Overall, he is a developmental quarterback with starter-upside tools, a strong frame, real mobility and ball security, who needs his processing and pocket discipline to catch up to the physical traits before he is trusted to run an offense.
