Draft Profile: Bio
Brendan Sorsby landed at Lake Dallas High School as a two-way threat, but his recruitment was quiet, with mostly two-star evaluations before a late three-star bump from some services. Indiana took a chance on him late, and after redshirting in 2022, Sorsby started seven games in 2023, throwing for 1,587 yards with 15 touchdowns against five interceptions. A coaching change sent him into the transfer portal, where he landed at Cincinnati.Sorsby broke out with the Bearcats in 2024, becoming the only FBS quarterback to produce both a 425-yard passing game and a 125-yard rushing performance. He completed 64% of his passes for 2,813 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding 447 yards and nine scores on the ground, earning two Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors and honorable mention for conference Newcomer of the Year.
He took another step forward in 2025, completing 207-of-336 passes (61.6%) for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and just five interceptions while rushing for another 580 yards and nine scores. Sorsby went 15-of-15 for 253 yards and five passing touchdowns against Northwestern State, put together a six-game winning streak with Cincinnati during the heart of the schedule and finished the year with 36 total touchdowns. He earned Second-Team All-Big 12 honors and established himself as one of the country's more productive dual-threat quarterbacks.
Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech for the 2026 season, but his college career ended before he could take a snap for the Red Raiders. An NCAA investigation found that he had placed thousands of impermissible sports wagers during his college career, totaling nearly $90,000, including bets involving Indiana football while he was a freshman. Sorsby acknowledged the violations and entered a residential treatment program for gambling addiction.
The NCAA ruled him ineligible, although Sorsby initially challenged the decision in court and briefly received an injunction that would have allowed him to play for Texas Tech. He later dropped the lawsuit, ending his college eligibility, and attempted to enter the NFL through the 2026 Supplemental Draft. The NFL declined to hold a supplemental draft, leaving Sorsby without a path to play professionally in 2026.
Sorsby subsequently reached an agreement with the NFL and NFLPA under which he will sit out the entire 2026 football season and become eligible for the regular 2027 NFL Draft. He will be permitted to take part in the normal pre-draft process, including all-star activities, a pro day and team visits. That leaves evaluators working from his 2025 Cincinnati tape and creates an unusual evaluation: Sorsby will arrive at the 2027 draft having gone more than a year without playing competitive football.

Scouting Report: Summary
Sorsby is a big, contact-absorbing dual-threat at 6-3 and 235 with real designed-run value, a live arm that drives the ball into intermediate windows, and ball security built on disciplined decisions, and he is rarely sacked because he keeps plays alive. However, his accuracy by level is even rather than special, the placement wavers outside the numbers, he bails clean pockets early rather than trusting his protection, and his footwork gets choppy under sustained rush.Overall, Sorsby has the physical tools to start in the NFL, but the passing rhythm and pocket discipline are underdeveloped and leave the ceiling uncertain. He projects as a developmental prospect whose frame, mobility and ball security are the draw, with the ceiling of a starter if the processing catches up and the floor of a mobile backup.
His 2027 evaluation will also be complicated by significant off-field concerns after NCAA gambling violations ended his college career and resulted in him sitting out the entire 2026 season. Teams will need to weigh the circumstances of those violations, how he has responded since, and the year away from competitive football alongside the on-field evaluation.
