Scouting Report: Strengths
- Can attack the edge with speed and has the flexibility to dip low and under the tackle's reach.
- Jones plays bigger than his listed size, with the functional strength and motor to take on and hold ground against much bigger blockers.
- Tougher between the tackles than many expect. Fluid and quick drop into zone, covers enough ground to be Tampa-2 "MIKE" and knows where the markers are.
- He shows excellent awareness in coverage when dropping into zone.
- Quick to read run, showing good agility and speed to get past blockers and finish. Experienced in coverage and gets a strong jam on outside receivers.
- Jones can be used as a rangy run defender inside, instinctive when it comes to locating the ball with the quickness to get to it before blockers can react at the second level.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- . Jones doesn’t have elite take-on skills. He’s not a violent hitter, but more of a grab-and-drag tackler. He’s also limited in man coverage, and Jones won’t be able to run with athletic tight ends.
- Loses size battle to many tight ends and is easily pushed away on out routes.
- Must work on using violent hands and defeating cut blocks. Also needs to build a variety of pass-rush moves.
