Draft Profile: Bio
Chris Murray from Mater Dei High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Murray opted to join UCLA.

In 2018 as a freshman Murray saw action in 12 games and played a total of 846 snaps for the Bruins. He allowed an unipressive 21 QB hurries, 5 QB hits, and 2 sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at right guard, and the rest at center.

As a sophomore in 2019 he played in 12 games and a total of 888 snaps. He conceded 13 QB hurries, no QB hits, and 3 sacks while playing at right guard.

After the end of the season Murray transferred to Oklahoma where as a junior Murray saw action in 5 games and totaled 64 snaps. He gave up just one QB hurry, 2 QB hits, and no sacks while playing at right guard.

In 2021 as a senior Murray saw action in 13 games and played a total of 807 snaps for the Sooners. He allowed 12 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and 2 sacks while playing at right guard.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • A smooth athlete with terrific mobility and footwork, staying light on his feet. Has the lateral range, natural shuffle movements, and lower body quickness to mirror speed rushers.
  • Quick feet to get inside of defensive tackles to wall off inside and reach linebackers at the second level.
  • Is effective when asked to pull, showing the agility, speed, and overall range to get out as a lead blocker, where Murray locates defenders and shows the ability to adjust and land blocks against linebackers.
  • Understands angles and plays with good leverage. Murray has long arms and heavy hands, using them effectively in pass protection, and he has a strong enough initial punch to get an edge on quick sets.
  • Has the functional strength to hold up against the bull rush, and he shows exceptionally quick and precise hands.
  • Murray will have a chance to develop as a right tackle or possibly inside at guard, where he could be an interesting prospect for a zone-blocking team. If nothing else, that versatility is enough to make him at least a quality reserve.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Flashes the ability to move his man with his hands, but is not yet consistent in this area.
  • Had issues against quality counter moves, struggling to readjust. That’s something he’ll see frequently against NFL technicians in the pass rush.
  • Could be a liability against speed-to-power pass rushers early in his career.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
