Draft Profile: Bio
Alex January is a Texas legacy; his father, Mike, played linebacker for the Longhorns from 1983 to 1986. Alex did not take up football until middle school, then won Class 6A Division I state titles at Duncanville High School in both 2022 and 2023, and was named the district's top defensive player in his final season.January played in 11 games as a freshman in 2024 and became a regular in 2025, making several starts. His best game came at Mississippi State on 25 October 2025, when he had five tackles, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.
He has played in every game in 2026 as part of the Texas line rotation. He had a sack, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup in the game at Tennessee and blocked a field goal in the win over Ole Miss on 24 October, adding four tackles and another pass breakup.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Stout run defender who rarely gets moved out of his gap
- Blocked a field goal in the win over Ole Miss
- Sacked the quarterback and broke up a pass at Tennessee
- Big frame that anchors well against double teams
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Below-average quickness off the snap limits his pass rush
- Rotational role, playing under 30 snaps a game
- Only six pressures in eight games as a rotational tackle
- Two missed tackles this season, against Ohio State and Tennessee
- Junior with eligibility left, so he could return for 2027
Scouting Report: Summary
January is a strong, physical interior lineman who does his job against the run. He holds his gap, anchors well against double teams and has made timely plays, from the sack at Tennessee to the blocked field goal against Ole Miss. However, he lacks quickness off the snap, which has held his pass rush to six pressures this season. He plays a rotational role, and as a junior he has time to grow into a bigger one.
Overall, January is a dependable early-down tackle with a strong family tie to the program. He projects as a priority free agent run stuffer, and another year at Texas could expand his role.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
