Draft Profile: Bio
Thompson attended Mesquite High School in Gilbert, Arizona. During his senior year in 2020, he passed for 3,431 yards and 34 touchdowns. His accolades that season included the All-American Bowl Offensive Player of the Year, Maxwell Football Club Offensive Player of the Year, Ed Doherty Award, and Arizona Gatorade Football Player of the Year. Thompson's high school career totals were 9,891 passing yards with 100 touchdowns and 1,145 rushing yards with 20 touchdowns. Rated as a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, he committed to the University of Oregon.At Oregon, Thompson competed for the starting job in 2021 but served as a backup to Anthony Brown. He appeared in three games, completing 7 of 15 passes for 87 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. In 2022, Thompson again competed for the starting role but was behind Bo Nix on the depth chart. He played in seven games, completing 11 of 20 passes for 72 yards with two interceptions. Thompson returned as Nix's backup in 2023 before entering the transfer portal on December 11, 2023.
On January 5, 2024, Thompson committed to play for Tulane. He enters the 2024 season competing for the starting quarterback position with the Green Wave.
