Draft Profile: Bio
A Columbia, South Carolina native who dominated at Hammond School as a five-star recruit, Burch initially stayed home to play for the Gamecocks before transforming into a different animal altogether at Oregon. After three years in Columbia, including a breakout 2022 campaign with 60 tackles and 7.5 TFLs, Burch took his talents to Eugene and never looked back. The former top-10 national recruit put on 13 pounds of pure muscle heading into 2024, and the investment paid off with his most disruptive season yet - racking up 8.5 sacks, 11 TFLs, and 31 tackles in just 11 games as a senior. At 6'5" and 295 pounds, Burch's physical transformation has been remarkable. While he showed flashes of brilliance at South Carolina, his move to Oregon unlocked new levels of dominance. His 2024 campaign included a career-defining performance against Michigan State with 2.5 sacks, earning him Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors - the first Duck to ever receive that recognition. The senior's development under Dan Lanning's tutelage has been evident, as he's evolved from a raw athlete into a technical force who can wreck offensive game plans.
The numbers tell the story of a player ascending at the right time - 170 career tackles, 33 TFLs, and 16 sacks across his college career. But it's the tape from 2024 that really opens eyes, showing a defensive weapon who reached 20.5 mph on GPS tracking despite carrying nearly 300 pounds on his frame. His versatility was on full display in the Ducks' defensive scheme, where he lined up everywhere from 4i to wide-9 technique.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Freakish athleticism for his size, clocking nearly 21 MPH on GPS despite weighing close to 300 pounds
- Explosive lower body strength - can make a 34-inch vertical jump and a 685-pound back squat
- Versatile alignment value from 4i to 7-technique with experience playing both 3 and 4-point stances - gives defensive coordinators multiple deployment options
- Natural power to collapse the pocket when he converts speed to power - can walk tackles back when he commits to the bull rush
- High motor rusher who doesn't quit on plays - regularly records clean-up sacks and pressures through second effort
- Developed feel for batting passes at the line - six batted balls in 2024 show awareness in passing lanes when rush stalls
- Strong tackler who breaks down well in space - missed tackle rate under 12% shows reliable finishing ability
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Pass rush production doesn't match elite athletic traits - struggles to convert explosive testing numbers into consistent pressure despite ideal physical tools
- Raw pass rush plan lacks sophistication - relies on athletic ability over technique and often gets stuck on blocks when initial move fails
- Gets caught peeking in the run game and will lose gap integrity - needs to show more discipline holding his ground against zone blocking
- Can struggle to disengage when blockers get into his frame - length doesn't always translate to consistent separation at point of attack
- Pad level rises significantly when rushing the passer - negates natural leverage advantage and allows tackles to get into his chest
Scouting Report: Summary
The disconnect between Burch's athletic testing and actual pass rush impact jumps off the tape. While he possesses rare movement skills for his size, the Oregon film shows a player who hasn't translated those tools into consistent pressure. Against Ohio State, his explosive first step repeatedly put him in position to affect the quarterback, but underdeveloped hand usage and raw technique let tackles recover and neutralize his rush.In the run game, Burch flashes dominance when playing straight ahead but needs significant technical refinement. The Oregon tape repeatedly shows him penetrating and disrupting on dive plays, particularly when aligned as a 4i-technique. His length and natural power shine in these situations. However, his tendency to play high and lose leverage shows up when forced to move laterally - an issue that raises questions about his three-down potential early in his career.
The gap between Burch's athletic ceiling and current skill level makes him a fascinating developmental prospect. His combination of size and explosiveness hints at untapped potential, but expecting immediate impact would be a mistake. This is a defensive lineman who needs time to develop a more sophisticated pass rush plan and better technique before he can be trusted as more than a rotational piece in a one-gap penetrating front.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
