Scouting Report: Strengths
- Shirden shows good vision and good explosion upfield once Shirden plants his foot. He has lateral movement skills and enough speed to threaten big plays. He’s excellent in the passing game, capable of flexing out as a receiver and creating mismatches against linebackers, and he’s a solid back in the screen game.
- He has very good vision and a knack for picking out cut-back lanes and then breaking offchunks of yardage.
- He’s extremely dangerous in the open field, showing the vision and creativity to run through entire defenses.
- Flashes initial burst and good lateral quickness to sidestep defenders or bounce runs outside with very good foot quickness. Displays very good feel as an inside and outside runner with above average vision to make sharp cuts - good patience· and footwork to pick through defenses.
- He brings a nice blend of power and passing game skills. Shirden has a compact build and a naturally low center of gravity, and he runs with excellent balance through traffic, allowing him to squeeze through for yardage.
- He’s patient in the backfield, willing to wait out his blocking and not panicking, and he consistently spots cutback lanes and takes advantage.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Does not always show a burst in the box, anticipates contact. Can get I turned easily on draws and inside isolation plays, shuffling and failing to restart momentum. Power in his cuts has been inconsistent. Tripped upon first contact.
- Shirden doesn’t offer a ton of wiggle, and in college, Shirden often sought out contact rather than avoiding it.
- When running between the tackles, he is more about deception. Shirden isn’t going to push the pile, and he will struggle to shed tacklers at the next level.
