Draft Profile: Bio
Ethan Grunkemeyer was a four-star quarterback at Olentangy High School in Lewis Center, Ohio, where he threw for 3,517 yards and 39 touchdowns as a senior. He was an Elite 11 finalist and an Under Armour All-American and also played basketball.

Grunkemeyer played in one game at Penn State in 2024. In 2025 he took over after Drew Allar's injury and started seven games, throwing for 1,339 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He went into the portal on 1 January 2026 and followed James Franklin to Virginia Tech.

Grunkemeyer has completed 71 percent of his passes for 2,140 yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions this season. He threw for 434 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-33 loss to Pittsburgh and for 314 yards and three scores at Maryland. On 24 October he threw the winning touchdown pass with 1:44 left in the 20-16 win at Clemson.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Completing 71 percent of his passes with 17 touchdowns
  • Threw for 434 yards and three touchdowns against Pittsburgh
  • Led a game-winning drive late in the win at Clemson
  • Good athlete with five rushing touchdowns this season
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Has taken 24 sacks, including six against both Georgia Tech and Clemson
  • Boston College held him to 147 yards in September
  • Pittsburgh picked him off twice in the narrow loss
  • Tends to hold the ball too long when pressure arrives
  • Two seasons of eligibility remain, so he may stay in school
Scouting Report: Summary
Grunkemeyer ranks among the most efficient passers in the ACC. He is accurate, completes 71 percent of his passes and can make big plays, as his 434 yards against Pittsburgh and his winning drive at Clemson showed.

However, he takes far too many sacks, with 24 this season, and Boston College held him to 147 yards. He also needs to protect the ball better in big moments, as two interceptions against Pittsburgh proved.

Overall, Grunkemeyer is an accurate, poised quarterback with real upside. He projects as a priority free agent for now, but another strong year could lift his stock.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
