NFL 2025- The top four contenders for the MVP award

One of the most popular markets is the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, and some stellar names are fancied to compete for the prize.

A quick look at the NFL 2025 picks for MVP by Spreadex Sports highlight that there is little to choose between four quarterbacks in the outright betting this season.

With that in mind, read on as we look at the top four contenders, starting with a player who is bidding to become a three-time MVP award winner.

Lamar Jackson – Baltimore Ravens

After previously being named MVP in 2019 and 2023, Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson narrowly missed out on the prize last season.

He set career-bests in passing yards (4,172), passing touchdowns (41), interceptions (four) and passer rating (119.6), but was pipped by Josh Allen in the final vote.

The Ravens have retained the services of left tackle Ronnie Stanley, which will boost Jackson’s chances of winning his third MVP award.

If Jackson produces similar numbers this season, he will be impossible to keep out of the MVP conversation at the end of the campaign.

Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills

Defending MVP winner Josh Allen is second favourite with the bookmakers to win the prize again and he could be the value bet in a competitive market.

The Buffalo Bills have been handed a favourable schedule this term, which boosts their chances of improving on the 13-4 regular season record they posted in 2024.

Allen’s tally of 3,731 passing yards last season was the first time in four years he dipped below the 4,000 yards mark, but he was still chosen as the MVP.

If he breaks through that barrier this season, he would have every chance of fending off his main contenders in the battle to be the NFL’s MVP.

Joe Burrow – Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow led the league in completions, attempts, passing yards and passing touchdowns last season. He completes a career-best 70.6 percent of his passes and threw just nine interceptions.

While those statistics highlight why many people think Burrow is a strong contender to win the MVP award, his current odds of 6/1 make limited appeal from a betting perspective.

Given that the questions marks surrounding their defensive unit have yet to be resolved, Burrow may find it tough to keep the Cincinnati Bengals in contention this term.

If the Bengals’ offense buckles under the pressure of carrying the team’s fortunes, Burrow could end up having an underwhelming campaign by his usual standards.

Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes has also won the MVP award on two previous occasions (2018 & 2022) and should be in contention to claim it for a third time this season.

The Kansas City Chiefs reached their third consecutive Super Bowl last term and have been tipped by several pundits to make it four-in-a-row this year.

With running back Isiah Pacheco now fully fit and wide receiver Xavier Worthy expected to improve in his second year with the Chiefs, their star quarterback has more offensive tools to work with.

Mahomes has repeatedly demonstrated why he is one of the best players in American Football. He could hit even greater heights in 2025.
