Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall A
ValueA NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
Larceny in pick No. 87 lands the Dolphins a A, Hardy and all.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Ahmad Hardy slide 68 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. Adding Mason McCormick by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

In the end it comes back to Colin Simmons, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Colin Simmons
In No. 21 they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Drew Mestemaker
Drew Mestemaker in the 43rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 David Stone
They robbed the room for David Stone here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87 Rnd3 Ahmad Hardy
Ahmad Hardy in slot 87 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick90 Rnd3 Peter Clarke
The board had Peter Clarke higher than pick 90, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick114 Rnd4 Luke Montgomery
Luke Montgomery at the 114th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 Cooper Barkate
Cooper Barkate in Round 4, Pick 21 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick150 Rnd5 Mateen Ibirogba
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mateen Ibirogba in pick No. 150. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jacob Ponton
Taking Jacob Ponton in slot 195 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick215 Rnd6 King Mack
You do not let a safety like King Mack reach No. 215 and blink. They did not. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick227 Rnd7 Landen Hatchett
Fair-plus on Landen Hatchett, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
