Scouting Report: Strengths
- Stays low in his backpedal and shows the click-and-close ability to break up plays in front of him. Cooper can move well laterally and shows excellent instincts when looking into the backfield in zone coverage.
- Fluid mover with decent speed and his length allows him to cover effectively downfield
- He’s also very good in zone coverage, showing a great understanding of routes and the ability to close quickly.
- He can flip his hips and run, with good top-end speed and the length to make plays on the ball.
- Can get up under a receiver’s chin and has the speed to flip his hips and run downfield. Cooper has the quick and surprisingly powerful hands to jostle receivers early. But he’s at his best peeking into the backfield.
- Stout and feisty. Will engage, shed and securely wrap the ballcarrier. Very fluid hips, backpedal and change-of-direction agility.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Has a high backpedal and loses a step in transition. Plays with adequate speed but there are concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters of the NFL.
- Like a lot of collegiate corners, Cooper has a tendency to get grabby, something that will have to be coached out of him.
- Inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression.
