Draft Profile: Bio
Alton McCaskill from Oak Ridge High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, McCaskill joined Houston.

In 2021 as a freshman McCaskill saw action in 14 games for the Cougars as he ran for 961 yards on 189 attempts for an excellent 5.1 yards per carry, with 16 TDs, with one fumble. As a receiver he made 21 receptions for 113 yards.

After the season McCaskill transferred to Colorado where as a sophomore in 2023 he played in 4 games. and rushed for just 59 yards on 14 carries for 4.2 ypc, with no TDs, with no fumbles. In the passing game he pulled in just 2 receptions for 19 yards.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • McCaskill has the size and toughness to be developed as a pass protector.
  • He has the athleticism, quick feet and functional strength to set the edge and open running lanes.
  • Difficult to bring down one-on-one in space, regularly sidesteps would-be tacklers and uses offhand to use oncoming defenders' momentum against them without slowing down significantly.
  • McCaskill shows decent burst and straight-line speed to turn in big plays.
  • An excellent blocker on the outside, McCaskill also adds value in the running game.
  • Does not possess top breakaway speed, though he's rarely caught from behind.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • McCaskill can sometimes be impatient, not allowing his blocks to set up, a nuance required for backs to last a decade-plus.
  • Offers little in pass protection and poor technique cut blocking, fails to do more than slow down blitzers by laying down in front of them.
  • A tall, upright runner who lacks great power as a runner. Not a quick-twitch athlete and is forced to gear down too much. Not very loose throughout his frame; looks tight redirecting. Will dance and leave his feet instead of taking what's there.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
