XXX DRAFTING FOR THECardinals

Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
A
ValueB
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Cardinals let Wilson fall and pounced. Final grade: A. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Cardinals came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
Wilson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
No drama and no debate, Rome Odunze went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick27
Rnd1
Kamari Lassiter
In pick 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in pick No. 35 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in slot 58 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick90
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Circle this one: Payton Wilson at the 90th pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick105
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at the 105th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137
Rnd5
Daijun Edwards
Daijun Edwards in Round 5, Pick 1 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick141
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
Nothing to complain about; Sione Vaki went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick184
Rnd6
LaDarius Henderson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, LaDarius Henderson at slot 184. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick222
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
Value with a capital V on JD Bertrand in No. 222, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
Nice patience on Isaiah Williams, who had no business lasting to the 224th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
