Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB
A franchise passer in Daniels headlines a D- weekend for the Bears. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Zion Logue at pick No. 256 regardless, 34 picks early. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
The Bears indulged a want in Solomon while a need in edge rusher and linebacker stayed open. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Wilson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In pick No. 5 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 9th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In slot 27 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick70
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
By-the-book stuff, Calen Bullock at No. 70 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in the 75th pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
They paid sticker price for Leonard Taylor III in Round 3, Pick 36, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and linebacker to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick111
Rnd4
Trey Benson
Nice patience on Trey Benson, who had no business lasting to No. 111. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
A slide stopped in pick 123, with Jarvis Brownlee Jr. worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick147
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Johnny Wilson in the 147th overall pick, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick183
Rnd6
Nick Gargiulo
They talked themselves into Nick Gargiulo at Round 6, Pick 8, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick210
Rnd6
Erick All
Erick All at pick No. 210 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick256
Rnd7
Zion Logue
Zion Logue in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
