Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+.

The Bears went off the board in a big way for Michael Pratt, 70 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Rice at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 6 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Jared Verse
They paid sticker price for Jared Verse in slot 9, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick47 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
No edge and no loss on Xavier Legette in No. 47; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 Michael Pratt
This one needs a full-page explanation: Michael Pratt in the 75th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at the 122nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick135 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Nice patience on Brenden Rice, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. The roster fit checks out.
