When a board-topper like Xavier Thomas slides to slot 171, you do not overthink it, and the Eagles did not. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In the end it comes back to JC Latham, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
JC Latham in the 22nd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
They let Roman Wilson come to them and pounced at the 53rd overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Caedan Wallace all the way to pick 161, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let an edge rusher like Xavier Thomas reach Round 5, Pick 35 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah Davis at slot 172. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
