Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Smith: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Donovan Smith, the No. 94 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 169. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Every board in the league had Gadsden II lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
The Will Fries deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Princely Umanmielen
In pick No. 19 they get juice off the edge. Need was not the driver here.
Pick47
Rnd2
Ollie Gordon II
No edge and no loss on Ollie Gordon II in No. 47; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick78
Rnd3
Shavon Revel Jr.
A slide stopped in the 78th pick, with Shavon Revel Jr. worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Derrick Harmon
A reach for Derrick Harmon in slot 117; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick121
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
They took Rylie Mills at par in the 121st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick153
Rnd5
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in Round 5, Pick 15 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick169
Rnd5
Donovan Smith
The board fumbled Donovan Smith all the way to pick 169, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick171
Rnd5
Woody Marks
Woody Marks in pick 171 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189
Rnd6
Garrett Dellinger
A conviction pick on Garrett Dellinger at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick208
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at the 208th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
