Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a D.

The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 244 on Devin Leary a full 63 spots early.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Washington.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In the 24th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value.
Pick31 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick 31 they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at No. 51 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
No drama and no debate, Zach Frazier went about where he belonged in pick No. 63. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
A tidy little value on Dominick Puni in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They took Johnny Wilson at par in the 124th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131 Rnd4 James Williams
A clean, defensible pick in the 131st pick with a little surplus value in James Williams. It fills a real need, too.
Pick133 Rnd4 Beau Brade
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beau Brade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick174 Rnd5 Tip Reiman
They went early on Tip Reiman in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick176 Rnd6 Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy at pick No. 176 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick211 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Somehow Cornelius Johnson was still sitting there in pick 211, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington in No. 215 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244 Rnd7 Devin Leary
This one needs a full-page explanation: Devin Leary in the 244th overall pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251 Rnd7 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio slid further than he should have, and slot 251 is lovely value for the linebacker. The roster fit checks out.
