FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B- to prove it. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 156 spots for Traeshon Holden, and value like that does not grow back. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Getting Lawson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
Pick41
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
You do not let a wide receiver like Luther Burden III reach pick No. 41 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in No. 80 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Fair-plus on Omarr Norman-Lott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jack Nelson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Nelson. The roster fit checks out.
Pick101
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
Good price on Elic Ayomanor in the 101st pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
Somehow Gunnar Helm was still sitting there in the 106th overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick141
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in pick 141 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick194
Rnd6
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A conviction pick on Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
The board fumbled Jordan Hancock all the way to pick No. 221, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Kaden Prather
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kaden Prather this early at Round 7, Pick 9. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick235
Rnd7
Traeshon Holden
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Traeshon Holden well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
