FutureA
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a A-. Nobody had Zion Tupuola-Fetui this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 33 spots to get him at pick 161.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick25
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick No. 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at the 35th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick68
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
No edge and no loss on Calen Bullock in No. 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 11. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick111
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the 111th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick121
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Foster. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick147
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick No. 161 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
