Larceny in pick No. 137 lands the Patriots a A-, Bullock and all. The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Calen Bullock, the No. 84 name on the board, in the Round 5 slot. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 8th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Good price on Tyler Guyton in the 34th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick43
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 11 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick47
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins at slot 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick68
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103
Rnd4
Payton Wilson
They barely believed it either: Payton Wilson still on the board at pick 103. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick137
Rnd5
Calen Bullock
A safety of that caliber at No. 137 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dillon Johnson
A quiet steal in pick No. 180: Dillon Johnson for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick193
Rnd6
Erick All
Erick All in the 193rd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick231
Rnd7
Myles Harden
Myles Harden in slot 231 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
