There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Raiders started one anyway for Matt Lee, 46 picks ahead of schedule.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Terrion Arnold went about where he belonged in pick 18. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Christian Haynes at the 44th pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Payton Wilson in the 49th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A conviction pick on Blake Corum at slot 71 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Blake Fisher, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Travis well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Luke McCaffrey at par in the 148th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in slot 208; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Solomon Byrd at No. 223 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matt Lee. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
