Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B- for the Commanders.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

The McCaffrey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That is an OT-EDGE worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

The Hunt pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, cornerback and other spots still on the board. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Drake Maye
A straight-up fair deal on Drake Maye at the 7th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick36 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in pick No. 36 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jonah Elliss
They paid up for Jonah Elliss at the 38th pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick40 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at slot 40 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
The board had Edgerrin Cooper higher than Round 3, Pick 3, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick101 Rnd4 Jalyx Hunt
Of all the spots to shop, they chose S-EDGE. Jalyx Hunt in pick 101 leaves tight end, cornerback and other spots for later.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
No edge and no loss on Jaden Hicks in No. 103; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick107 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
This one needs a full-page explanation: Luke McCaffrey in the Round 4 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the linebacker. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick181 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Fair-plus on Frank Gore Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick220 Rnd6 Julian Pearl
They robbed the room for Julian Pearl here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
