Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Mike Sainristil got past him. The Vikings do not have to explain a thing at slot 179. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
It is not that King is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter.
You do not let a quarterback like Michael Penix Jr. reach pick 42 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking T.J. Tampa in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They bypassed pressing needs at safety, offensive lineman and other spots to take Kalen King, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Braden Fiske at pick No. 145 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylen Wright. It fills a real need, too.
They took Grayson Murphy at par in the 166th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Mike Sainristil in Round 6, Pick 4 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board fumbled Jordan Magee all the way to slot 227, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
