Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Luke McCaffrey got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at Round 5, Pick 30. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They will need Capehart to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Roy Robertson-Harris deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.12
· Pick 112
· Khyree Jackson
· CB
· rank 105
Khyree Jackson in the 112th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.19
· Pick 155
· Braelon Allen

Braelon Allen in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.30
· Pick 166
· Luke McCaffrey

They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at the 166th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.15
· Pick 190
· Christian Jones
· OT

They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in No. 190, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.20

· Andrew Raym
· C
· rank 194
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Raym at slot 195, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.11
· Pick 231
· Blake Watson
· RB

A tidy little value on Blake Watson in slot 231, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.14
· Pick 234
· Zakhari Franklin
· WR
· rank 229
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zakhari Franklin in the 234th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.30
· Pick 250
· DeMonte Capehart
· DT
· rank 275
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at No. 250, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
