Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, J.J. McCarthy and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 32nd pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Calen Bullock in slot 95. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zak Zinter in pick 108 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sataoa Laumea in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Marist Liufau, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Luke McCaffrey at the 167th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 177 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had JD Bertrand higher than No. 230, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They robbed the room for M.J. Devonshire here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
