The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
With tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Guerendo.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a franchise quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at No. 43 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mekhi Wingo. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in Round 4, Pick 18 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Josh Newton at cornerback with tight end open.
Kitan Oladapo is a better player than slot 166 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Layden Robinson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaac Guerendo at the 190th pick is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Tayvion Robinson at the 232nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
