Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaden Hicks got past him. The Vikings do not have to explain a thing at the 157th overall pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Every board in the league had Milton III lower, and that gap is the story. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Jared Verse at the 11th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mekhi Wingo at the 50th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caelen Carson at pick 97. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyrice Knight at Round 4, Pick 9, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in No. 130, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Joe Milton III at slot 145 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaden Hicks in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 160, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Luke McCaffrey in No. 166 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Justin Rogers in slot 171 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Andru Phillips at pick 179 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
The board fumbled Daijahn Anthony all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
