Boards are made to be trusted, and the Vikings shredded theirs for Tim Smith. He came off 96 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Whatever Quinn Ewers becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Walker pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 20 they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jonah Elliss at No. 52 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 120 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Burch. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had Ty'Ron Hopper higher than the Round 5 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Devontez Walker at Round 5, Pick 32. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on De'Corian Clark in the 179th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Tim Smith at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
