The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Luke McCaffrey slide 28 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at slot 23, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
In No. 27 they get a true top target at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Kris Jenkins in pick 71 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sataoa Laumea. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 5 slot is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Mason McCormick at the 167th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a wide receiver like Luke McCaffrey reach Round 6, Pick 2 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
