Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedC+ TradesA- FutureA
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B+ to prove it.

You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Steelers spent pick 53 on Tyler Guyton while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat unaddressed.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Wilson to cover a lot of smaller sins.

They left with safety solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In No. 21 they get a blindside protector at fair value. More want than need.
Pick53 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick85 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
The board had Payton Wilson higher than pick No. 85, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197 Rnd6 Christian Jones
Good price on Christian Jones in the 197th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick199 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
A tidy bit of business in the 199th pick, where JD Bertrand graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick240 Rnd7 Aaron Frost
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aaron Frost. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick242 Rnd7 Ja'Had Carter
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Had Carter at Round 7, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
