Chicago4lyfe DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureC-
The Bears did enough to get by: C+. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Desmond Evans in the 232nd overall pick.
However the rest shakes out, Smith-Wade at that price is a win they earned. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Hit on Marvin Harrison Jr. and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 1 they get a No. 1 receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 9th overall pick they get a blindside protector, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jermaine Burton
Jermaine Burton slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in Round 4, Pick 10 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick125
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
The board had Tommy Eichenberg higher than No. 125, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Frank Gore Jr.
A big swing on Frank Gore Jr. at the 146th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick186
Rnd6
Chau Smith-Wade
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at Round 6, Pick 11. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick232
Rnd7
Desmond Evans
Desmond Evans at No. 232 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
