Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
Williams is the Commanders' new face under center. Grade: D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Commanders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. If Frazier pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
No edge and no loss on Bralen Trice in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at pick No. 40 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick42
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They paid up for Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 42nd pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 25 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick67
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at pick 67 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
They did well to land Bucky Irving in slot 100, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick102
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at No. 102 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick141
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for LaDarius Henderson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181
Rnd6
Aki Ogunbiyi
A reach for Aki Ogunbiyi in the 181st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
They paid sticker price for Zakhari Franklin in pick 223, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
