Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesC-
FutureA
The Patriots checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. The Patriots treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 236th pick on Seth McLaughlin a full 53 spots early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Henderson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
In slot 8 they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer in No. 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
They liked Tyler Warren enough to skip the value, taking him in the 41st pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals in the 72nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick86
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at Round 3, Pick 22 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick108
Rnd4
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at pick 108 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Benjamin Morrison
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 144 with a little surplus value in Benjamin Morrison. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick218
Rnd7
Logan Parr
Logan Parr at the 218th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick220
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
By-the-book stuff, Luke Lachey at Round 7, Pick 6 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick236
Rnd7
Seth McLaughlin
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Seth McLaughlin well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick256
Rnd7
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A real head-scratcher, Ar'maj Reed-Adams in pick 256 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
