Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesC FutureA+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B.

The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Sedrick Van Pran, taking him 24 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Johnson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The A.J. Epenesa pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
No edge and no loss on Laiatu Latu in Round 1, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick18 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
Fair-plus on Rome Odunze, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick38 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keon Coleman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick47 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
A reach on Cooper Beebe in the 47th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick50 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens in pick No. 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick105 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Zak Zinter for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis in slot 128 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick142 Rnd5 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson is a better player than No. 142 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick183 Rnd6 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson slid further than he should have, and the 183rd overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick196 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They liked Brevyn Spann-Ford enough to skip the value, taking him in the 196th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick226 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
The board fumbled Cornelius Johnson all the way to pick 226, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
