There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Raiders started one anyway for Shilo Sanders, 69 picks ahead of schedule. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
Everything downstream of Carson Beck depends on Carson Beck, and the building knows it. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Milroe. The Raiders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 32 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 11. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Deone Walker in the 44th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalen Milroe in pick 60 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tai Felton at slot 73 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land Donovan Jackson in pick No. 75, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Jabbar Muhammad in pick 92 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malachi Moore slipping to the 97th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A quiet steal in slot 109: Danny Stutsman for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on Jack Nelson in Round 4, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Donovan Edwards went about where he belonged in No. 140. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Connor Colby at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
LT Overton in the 154th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Bryson Nesbit in No. 187 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; J.C. Davis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Shilo Sanders at pick 214, well ahead of any board in the building. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Marcus Mbow at Round 7, Pick 11 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
